The third Electric Pendergrass album has dropped, with more vaporwave-ish synth wibbles and obscure mining of soft breaks and bits. This new one, available to download for free (or at any price you fancy throwing into the hat if you’re feeling generous), is only available from Bandcamp, so if you’re waiting for Spotify, don’t hold your breath as it might be a while.
While previous releases have looked at communication breakdowns in technology, and the tussle between industrial progress versus nature, this new one is taking new age medicine, conspiracies and the like to task. In one track, using the words lifted from the newsletter from an actual cult and letting them breathe all by themselves, unhinged and hysterical – all backed by wavering electronics and clicky beats.
There’s more traditional songs and ’70s drum machines that seem to be recorded directly to tape, with the mistakes left in intentionally, moving away from some of the more robotic work of previous years.
It’s called ‘Spiritual Grift’ and you can find it below. Download it to your phone and listen at your leisure.
