WORDS ABOUT MUSIC + POP CULTURE

ROCKIN’ NASHVILLE WITH JD MCPHERSON

There’s something in the lizard bit of our brain that just loves a song that sounds like it should be played late and way too loud in a dive bar somewhere. These songs don’t need to reinvent the wheel – they need to be good, honest rock ‘n’ roll, whatever stripe of rock that is.

With that, we got tickled very nicely by Nashville’s JD McPherson and his first new music in yonks – a track called ‘Sunshine Getaway’.

The new LP is out September and called ‘Nite Owls’, which is only tickling our need for dive bar music even more.

“To me, the thread between Duane Eddy (whom the album is dedicated) and Depeche Mode is that single-note, reverb-y guitar style. So it felt natural to blend that kind of big-string guitar thing with the classic stuff and a dash of surf. It made sense.”

Sounds good to us. Pour a disgustingly large slug of Kentucky bourbon into a glass and get weird with this track first chance you get. You’ll be getting hit over the head with the thick end of a pool cue in no time.
