It’s a terrible state of affairs trying to keep your pages fresh with new content, so sometimes, what you have to do is write about literally nothing. That’s exactly what we’re doing here.
Don’t complain about feeling short-changed, because we were upfront about this fact. We were upfront about it in the opening paragraph and, indeed, heavily hinted at it in the headline. Any feelings of irritation about this are entirely your own doing. Besides, who even really like Foals? Anyone? Surely some do, but y’know – they’re not the intra-band shagfest of Fleetwood Mac are they?
Anyway, in the opposite of announcing that they’re doing something, Foals spoke to the NME and said they’re having some time off in 2023. That’s quite the scoop and we hope the NME will be running articles on all the bands that are also not doing anything in 2023 – enquiring minds need to know.
Naturally, the band are doing some stuff right now, but after that, they won’t be doing anything, you see? They haven’t made plans to do anything after they’ve been doing things. Of course, if they had planned to do some things, then it would be a period of still doing things, and that’s not what this piece is about. This is a piece about them not doing things, you silly goose.
Frontman Yannis Philippakis told NME: “We’ve got some time off in early 2023, which will be great. We’ll probably just rest and recuperate because this tour has been awesome but quite long.”
“We should down tools for a bit and just enjoy where we are in our lives for a minute and stretch our legs creatively.”
That’s nice isn’t it? This is a much more interesting thing to write about. Bands are always doing stuff aren’t they? They’re always doing stuff and then asking people to listen about how the stuff they’ve been doing. Not Foals though. They understand that the NME needed to write something about what they weren’t doing, and now we’re copying them.
Tremendous.
