We can’t imagine we’ll be featuring a huge amount of ice hockey on these pages, but then again, how many surprisingly good disco LPs are based around tips from a professional hockey player?
Guy LaFleur died in 2022, and was a Canadian hockey legend, and he once released an LP where he gave training advice set to disco. Lafleur was one of those French speaking Canadians, so you could probably play this out and most of your English speaking punters would be oblivious. And honestly, it is surprisingly good.
As a player, Lafleur was nicknamed ‘Le Démon Blond’ and ‘the Flower’, which are excellent nicknames. He played for the Montreal Canadiens, NY Rangers, and the Quebec Nordiques on the wing, won a bunch of Stanley Cups and was named one of the 100 greatest in history in 2017.
We don’t expect you to care about his sports stats, however, it’s much better that one of the game’s greats should be behind a French spoken disco LP – it’s funny when it’s a runt of a player, but this guy? He’s a bona fide legend! Do you want to hear it? Course you do. That’s what that big embedded video is for.
RIP, Démon Blond. We’re having a look on Discogs for this while you read.
