Is it jazz? Is it folk? Is it fusion? Is it (whisper it now) balearic? Whatever it is, it is staggeringly gorgoues and it goes by the name of ‘Nyanser’ and it is by Thomas Almqvist.
It was originally released in ’79 on Mistlur Records in Sweden, and it is a groovy, sophisticated number that is, sure, virtuosic in places, but if it’s vibe you’re looking for, you won’t hear many better LPs than this. It’s heady, swirly, magical, psychedelic, and touches on a lot of all that’s great in grown-up music.
Featuring personal, wonderful guitar stylings, heavy on the rhodes and synths, with aching flute and sex, and commune jazz percussion that makes for a very special album indeed.
We’d be surprised if there’s many Scandinavian LPs better than this, outside of the pop world, in turn rich and deep, while also being intimate and delicate. It’s a lost, cult classic, and we reckon you’ll love it.
The LP is going for a pretty penny if you want to prise it from a collector’s hands, but no fear! Be With Records are reissuing this gorgeous gem and it’s available for pre-order now. We imagine it won’t hang around long, so get on it. Click here and grab yours.
Be With have repressed with with audio from the original analogue tapes, the artwork restored, and a record very worthy of any shelf in any serious listener’s home. Get on this. Don’t miss out.
