Hey Macca fans! There’s going to be a feature documentary that looks at Paul McCartney’s life following the breakup of The Beatles. That’s the cool solo bits, Wings, and his life with Linda McCartney, and obviously, an insane amount of incredible music.
We’re promised a lot of never-seen-before archive of Paul and Linda’s home videos and photos, new interviews, and it’s going to be ace. It’s going to be directed by Morgan Neville (who did the brilliant ’20 Feet From Stardom’ amongst other things, including an Anthony Bourdain thing we’ve not seen).
It’ll be called ‘Man On The Run’, and begins effectively where ‘Get Back’ left off (not quite, but you get the premise).
The Beatles have imploded, the business got ugly, and Linda’s pulling Macca out of a depressive hole, and he’s tinkering away making music without his brothers. It wasn’t a given that any Solo Beatle project would be a success, so we find a man staring down a new, uncertain future, which we know includes ‘McCartney I’, ‘RAM’, ‘Band On The Run’, ‘Venus & Mars’, and we at pains to include the underrated ‘Wild Life’ too.
We’ll also see McCartney hitting the road for the first time since The Beatles knocked it on the head in ’66. It’ll be great. Good tunes and cool footage – what’s not to like?
Michele Anthony: “At its heart, this is a story of Linda and Paul’s enduring love and an artist finding his own voice after being in the most historic music group ever. Our film traces one of the most incredibly creative periods of Paul’s life which spawned a vital and legendary body of work that continues to impact people and culture in every corner of the globe. We are honoured to present this story with unprecedented access to a treasure trove of material from Paul and Linda’s personal archive.”
Morgan Neville: “As a lifelong obsessive of all things McCartney, I’ve always felt that the 1970s were the great under-examined part of his story. I’m thrilled to have the chance to explore and reappraise this crucial moment in a great artist’s life and work.”
