T-Pain is brilliant. He’s always been brilliant. He can turn his hand to almost anything and yet, there’s foolish people out there who still think he can’t sing and that autotune does all the work. T-Pain has always had the vocal chops and anyone who has seen his Tiny Desk show knows how fantastic and soulful he is, as well as being brilliant with the FX.
Anyway, he’s got a new LP due called ‘On Top Of The Covers’, where he’ll be singing with his ‘natural’ voice and taking on a variety of cover versions, including ‘War Pigs’ by Sabbath.
That’s piqued your interest hasn’t it?
He’s also going to be having a go at ‘Stay With Me’ by Sam Smith (that’ll be a massive gospel tear-jerker won’t it?), ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’ by Sam Cooke, Chris Stapleton’s ‘Tennessee Whiskey’, and the one we’re most excited to hear is ‘Sharing The Night Together’ by Dr Hook. There’s more too, but we think there should be some surprises in your life and you don’t have to know absolutely everything all the time.
It will be released on March 17th, and he said: “This covers album has been years in the making. This is something I’ve felt strongly about for a long time. These songs are not what you’d expect when you hear that T-Pain is doing a covers album and that is what I think is cool about it.”
Of course, T-Pain was on the Masked Singer show in the States and absolutely tore it up there, so all of this shouldn’t be a huge surprise to anyone. It’s going to be really fun and great, just you watch.
And the artwork for the LP is 100% chef kiss. Honestly, take a look at this magnificent thing! He better release this on vinyl.
