BRITPOP TV SHOW DUE FOR THOSE APPROACHING MIDDLE AGE

There’s going to be a new four-part series on terrestrial TV called ‘Britpop: The Music That Changed Britain’ so you can relive the long summers of your youth, or if you’re young, listen to your parents talk over the show by regaling you with stories about how mum threw up her ring down the side of Shed Seven’s tourbus after hammering the Moscow Mules.

What channel is it on? Channel 5. Or Five. Whatever it’s called. It’ll have some nice archive footage of course, and it’ll probably mention ladettes, and someone’s almost certainly going to remember how much they fancied Justine Frischmann or Graham Coxon or that guitarist from Menswear. There’s going to be new interviews with key players from the genre, and we’ll show our arses if Stuart Maconie and Miranda Sawyer aren’t on it.

There’ll be tales of the Oasis/Blur rivalry of course, and hopefully, something of the friction with Suede/Blur/Elastica too, because that’s a much better story honestly.

The new four-part series Britpop: The Music That Changed Britain will be premiering on Sunday March 12th at 9pm on Channel 5 in the UK.

And to prove we’re dreadful musos with good memories, we’ll finish off this article by sharing a video from a band that almost certainly won’t appear on the show, but is very much from the period.
