Great news if you want to sit with a load of other people and watch the Eurovision Song Contest at high volume – it’s going to be broadcast in British cinemas for the first time ever.
Of course, everyone was trying to get tickets for the show in Liverpool and the whole thing sold out very quickly thanks to an absurd demand. If a communal viewing is what you wanted, this might be the next best thing without throwing a party yourself where you have to tidy up after everyone’s spilled Doritos and White Claws all over your new rug.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has confirmed the grand finale with be shown in cinemas and, correctly, they’re encouraging “fancy dress and singalongs.”
You’ll know that this year’s show will be in Liverpool after the UK finished second with Sam Ryder, awarded to these shores after Ukraine won. As they’re still being illegally invaded by Russia, it’s obviously not safe to do it over there.
“We want audiences to enjoy themselves, come along in groups, get your fancy dress on, and come together to enjoy this historic occasion on the big screen,” says John Travers of CinemaLive, distributor of the event to cinemas.
Tickets for the cinema shows are on sale right now and there’ll be over 500 participating, so you should be alright getting yourself a spot. If not, it’s still going to be on the telly and shown in a variety of bars and clubs around the country. You’re not short of a few options.
Here’s the UK entry, which is mercifully, very very fun indeed.
