It really has been a high watermark period for African music. Even including the ’70s when Africans were making some of the most culturally significant music on the planet, it didn’t reach the commercial successes that it has in recent years and it almost feels like we’re due a lengthy, thoughtful piece on the whole resurgence… which we may do if we remember.
With that, rising Nigerian star Asake has a new track out and again, it shows that momentum isn’t looking like stopping any time soon.
Asake has confirmed that there’s a new full-length LP ready to go later this year, but until then, we get a taste of what it’ll be like with ‘2:30’, which is typically dancefloor ready and super light and breezy. There’s some rhythmic production tics in this which are utterly irresistible, so don’t miss out on this.
Also, wait ’til you see his blue beret and yellow check tailored suit outfit. Glorious.
