SUEDE MISSIVES AND A REISSUE

Suede – The Smiths it’s alright to like – are reissuing their debut LP. This is to mark the 30th anniversary of the group’s eponymous album, and there’ll be extra tracks and all-sorts, which you’ll find at the foot of this article if you don’t want to read some pithy asides about them in the meantime.

This new version of the record will be clearer than ever before, apparently, because of Dolby Atmos. That’ll please the now 40something audiophiles who have never quite moved on from listening to Britpop and are utterly thrilled that The Kids have got back into it, so they can haunt indie clubs all over again. Only this time, the music is nearly drowned out by the sound of creaking knee joints and people loudly talking about how nice is it to find themselves again, after the divorce.

The remixed LP is being done from the original tapes and production masters, all signed off by the guy who originally produced it (Ed Buller).

As an aside, Britpop has been getting its flowers recently, thanks to a spate of reunion gigs, documentaries and whatnot – wouldn’t it be nice if Elastica go the reissue treatment, seeing as vinyl copies of their debut are going for silly money. It’d be nice to listen to ‘Line Up’ on our record players, y’know? And besides, aren’t they the epitome of greatness from that period, really?

We digress. Not too much though, because we all know that Justine Frischmann was in Suede once. You can imagine lads in corduroy jackets and bootcuts, now bald, drunkenly telling Z-shaped effette 19 year olds in smoking terraces this fact, despite anyone with a passing interesting music having read the Wikipedia page already.

Talking about the first Suede LP, Brett Anderson stopped whipping his microphone lead at mums-of-two long enough to say: “It was a genuinely magical time in my life and one for which I’ll always be grateful. It felt incredible being in what I thought was quite probably the most exciting band in the world at the time, making a record which felt like more than just another band making another album.”

If our Spidey Sense is correct, this could well be a pricey affair. The reissue will be a Blu-Ray 5.1 Dolby something or other thing, and a half-speed 180g heavyweight vinyl affair. We hear it’ll have a reimagined bespoke sleeve for the occasion too, as well as 7″ picture discs of the band’s first four singles.

It’ll be available to buy on July 7th. They’ve got a new album out too and, jokes aside, we wish them well.
