WORDS ABOUT MUSIC + POP CULTURE

GAYANCE + JARREAU VANDAL IS ACE

We fizzed with excitement about the Gayance LP, and we’re doing it all over again as she’s teamed up with Jarreau Vandal for an absolute bop.

The track is called ‘No More’ and the track is out right now – but if you want to hear it first, then keep scrolling because obviously we’ve embedded a video for you.

There’s heavy percussion, steel drums, ace melodies and pumping club business galore, and the whole thing is just a delightful melting pot of all things dancefloor friendly. You’ll like it, unless you’re one of those squares who doesn’t like fun music designed for dancing along with surrounded by fun people.

Jarreau Vandal says: “I actually made the link between the French Caribbean and Surinamese music way before I started this project when my friend that plays percussion on the record showed me songs like ‘Ti Milo’ by Eugene Mona from Martinique and ‘Petwo’ by Haitian percussionist Jeff Pierre.”

“I was shocked by how similar the percussion patterns were and it showed me how hard the people taken from Africa brought to these different places in the Caribbean fought to maintain their culture and music.”
