It might be a bit of a stereotype to presume that vinyl-loving readers of these pages might see their toes curl up at the notion of any social media platform that requires you to take a photo of yourself, but y’know.
Anyway, assuming that we might actually have some readers under the age of 35, here’s some news for your BeReal timeline – you can now force your musical tastes on your pals.
That’s because Spotify have teamed up with the app, because it’s a nice distraction from everyone yelling at them to pay musicians more. Of course, it’s another way for musicians to get their music shared by people, so y’know… it’s complicated.
This new integration will basically let you add your listening activity to your daily posts, and you’ve have to connect your profiles and all that – you know how apps work. Big Tech gets your data and creams the money in, and long ago, you decided if you were the kind of person who decided whether or not they cared about their data being used (there’s no wrong answers – live your best life).
So, you upload a photo and the app will pull a song (or even a podcast) with cover art, and blurt the whole thing into the timeline.
It hasn’t been rolled out globally, but it will.
It goes without saying that Spotify is currently seen as somewhat problematic in the music industry at the minute, but also, it’s too ubiquitous to be flat out ignored (and who doesn’t like making ultra specific playlists for themselves and sharing them with friends, eh?). For the time being, most of us are using Spotify and we’ll let the machinations work themselves out and scratching our chins about the whole thing.
