Often misunderstood, quite possibly because they’ve been ahead of the curve or sheer unwillingness to stick to a formula, Dexys (FKA Dexy’s Midnight Runners) are a joy behold.
Kevin Rowland and his cohorts are back with a new LP and it’s a mixed bag judging by the singles.
Rowland says that the title track – ‘The Feminine Divine’ – is a song “overcome with regret and at last glimpsing how women might actually feel, the man gets honest and admits how afraid of women he has been, and how fear has driven so many of his actions. He now sees and acknowledges women’s inherent power: if anything, women are superior; they are goddesses. He sincerely pledges to be different in the future.”
Have a listen to that, right now.
There was a song that came before this one, which is vintage Dexys and brassy and cocky, and the video is a lovely thing as we get to see a very dapper Kevin in the streets, and generally being an incredibly charming individual.
We assume this means gigs, so if you’ve been wishing you could watch ‘Geno’ live or whatever, you’re in luck.
