Listen, getting way to obsessive about a new act is the best thing about music, right? You excitedly yell about them to just about anyone who’ll listen and the more disinterested they are, the more fervent you become. That’s what we’re like about DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ.
Why? It’s the music mainly – dreamy, wonky pop through a house-ish filter, that has echoes of Boards of Canada uneasy-easiness, old Roger Sanchez records, vaporwave, dreampop, and everything that’s good about life. It’s yearning, uplifting, melancholy, brilliant stuff. And that name – DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ is just brilliant. Say it out loud to yourself and feel a smile break across your face.
And there’s records too! Our favourite thing! Over on DJSTTDJ’s Bandcamp, you can get the brilliant ‘Something New’ (we’re in May and it’s still in our Top 3 tracks of 2023) and it comes with lip balm. LIP BALM! Isn’t that brilliant? Remember years ago when bands threw in some great things as well as the music? It’s happened again!

Honestly, DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ feels like one of those acts where you end up ummming and aaaaaaahing over and then, you get totally obsessed because something clicks, and then you ferret around online looking for vinyl only to find out the likes of us have bought it all already and you end up forking out £70 for it when you could have bought it new for considerably less.
Do it now. Stop dithering. These are future collectibles. They’re the kind of records to make your mates jealous with when you have an afters ’round your house. Don’t miss out.
