There’s a lot of talk around Alaska Reid at the moment and honestly, we’re playing catch-up as it seems there’s been hot talk about her for a while now. We don’t know everything, y’know?
However, we listened to ‘Dogs & Girls’ by chance and it seems, along with the likes of Honey Gentry, there’s a spate of new songwriters around who are dissolving themselves into immersive, otherworldly, haunted pop music. Music that’s somehow intimate, but also out-of-this-world.
It’s kinda rooted in Americana, but not in a straight-up country way, but rather, recording the reverb of a memory of old Hollywood. Maybe Lana Del Rey started it, but this new shit is interesting and tremendously beguiling.
It’s ambient Jim, but not as we know it.
