DJS DI GUETTO // HOT LISBON DANCE ENERGY

If you’re not aware of the Príncipe label, you’re in for a treat! There’s a brilliant compilation called DJs Di Guetto and it’s filled with energetic, hot kuduro tracks from the aforementioned. So what are we talking about exactly?

Well, the compilation looks at kuduro which was originated in Angola in the late ’80s, but was updated and revamped in the barrios of Lisbon, and it’s hot the pulsating, wild heat that sounds unlike anything else really. It’s hard, uptempo electronic music that honestly, sounds like the best night out of your life.

Part techno, part Afrobeats, part dancehall, part… we need to stop likening it to other stuff. It’s unique and fabulous.

Originally a digital-only thing, it is now on vinyl and well worth picking up in either format. The original came out in September 2006 by Marfox, N.K., Jesse, Pausas, Fofuxo and Nervoso, and collectively, they’re DJs Di Guetto. The LP can’t fit all the tracks that featured on the digital download (over 30 tracks, FYI!), and instead, cherry picks 13 of the best bangers, that will knock your socks clean off.

If you want the download, click here. If they have any left, the wonderful Norman Records have some vinyl copies here, but check your favourite indie retailers online if they’ve sold out.
