Rejoice Super Furry Animals fans! A rarely seen ‘road movie’ featuring your furry friends on tour and in the studio and all that good stuff. It’ll be screened on YouTube for one-time only (bootleggers ears pricking up there) and you can join SFA at 8pm on Friday September 15th.
This is all part of a celebration for the reissue of the ace ‘Phantom Power’, which is 20 years old and will be out with cool bonus tracks, repressed on vinyl, and all that magic stuff. If this redo was news to you, head to superfurryanimals/phantompowerPR already.
So, about this film? Well, it’s called ‘American Sasquatch’ and it was originally a DVD-only extra, but now we all get to settle in and watch it alongside the band themselves, which should be a real treat! It’s been digitised and tarted up, so it’ll look and sound nice. You’ll be able to watch it for one month, and then WOOSH! it’ll be gone.
The movie was directed by Dyl Goch, who is the group’s projectionist and an award-winning director, and shot over a couple of years, allowing us into the magical, psychedelic world of the Super Furries. Honestly, there’s not enough Super Furry footage around, so anything we can get is a boon.
There’s been a lot of great archival work with the Super Furry world lately, and this is going to be another feather in the cap for all Furry Friends who have been along for the ride this past few decades.
Another LP would be nice lads, just sayin’.
With the gonzo doc and the reissue, we’ll once again be reminded how great ‘Slow Life’, ‘Hello Sunshine’, ‘Golden Retriever’ and more really are. It’s a gem of an album, but then again, there’s not a bad record in the SFA back catalogue is there?
Here’s a teaser to whet the whistle.
