If you’re a fan of intimate, killer folk, then you’re going to love Miriam Gendron.
Her ‘Not So Deep As A Well’ album came out in 2014 and quickly became a cult classic and hard to get your hands on.
Well, it’s being re-issued (and available for the first time in Europe) on 17th November 2023. It’s an expanded version too!
Recorded alone in her apartment, with minimal knowledge of recording techniques, Myriam made an album that sounds like a lost gem from the ’60s.
She took the poems of Dorothy Parker after finding them in a bookshop in Montreal, and gracefully turned them into music.
“I came across a beautiful 1936 anthology of her poetry, and I was attracted by the pink clothed cover and the gold lettering,” Myriam explains of that introduction. “I knew the name but in my mind she was a satirist. I had no idea she had written poetry.”
If you’re a fan of Anne Briggs, Alastair Roberts, Karen Dalton, acid folk, Will Oldham, you’re going to love this.
