The Lemonheads are coming back and your mum is going to be thrilled. Or maybe you’re the thrilled mum? We don’t use mum in a derogatory way, like only stoopid girls like Evan Dando’s music, because women have always had impeccable taste in music and, it’s no secret that Dando’s brand of jangly indie is a firm fave of theirs.
And he’s always been a bit of a dreamboat, obviously. You either wanna get with him, be him, or punch him in the face. The perfect storm for a cult hero.
So what’s the news? Well, there’s a teaser of some new music and you’ll be glad to know it sounds like The Lemonheads, albeit with Evan’s voice sounding a little more gruff. It’s just an age thing. It’s all good.
This’ll be the first proper release since 2006, which is a long time out of the game.
What’s good news for fans of The Lemonheads regardless of age is that this means there’s very likely to be a tour. How extensive that’ll be remains to be seen, but Dando always liked a trip to Europe, and who wouldn’t want a little dance to ‘If I Could Talk I’d Tell You’ if given the chance?
The announced dates are an American affair thus far, so bully for those guys.
The LP is a tribute to his recently deceased pal, Dan Lardner, who some may know from the band QTY. The Lemonheads said: “Life is short and unforgiving. RIP Dan Lardner, we will forever love you.” The snippet below is a track written with Lardner.
