Country music has always got a raw deal for being racist hick music, but that’s usually from the worst kind of person who hasn’t listened to a lick of country music in their life. Fact is, it’s a genre as enduring as any other, and as broad a church as you’ll find anywhere. That said, in recent years, there’s been a good amount of dreck, fought off only by the likes of Chris Stapleton and Kacey Musgraves.
Bubbling under the big names though, there’s been a great sprouting of rootsy good stuff by newer artists, and the new one from Sierra Ferrell should have you wanting to find out more about what’s going on Stateside. It’s not all phoney songs about being local and pretending you’ve bin cryin’ agin. That said, crying and drinking are perfectly good things to write a song about.
Ferrell’s new LP is called ‘Trail of Flowers’, and there’s a cool lead single from it called ‘Dollar Bill Bar’ and you can listen to it right now.
