There’s no point pretending you don’t like Daft Punk. They’re ace. Disco, bug-eyed filter funk, squelching nonsense and big ol’ doof doofs – they’re a barrel of fun and wear cool masks! Just because they had hits that were omnipotent doesn’t mean those hits weren’t wonderful!
Now, we all know that Daft Punk split up by pressing the self destruct button in a fancy video, but then they surprised everyone with a drumless LP and… well… there might be more to come!
Apparently, according to an interview with a pal of theirs, they recorded an album’s worth of stuff in 2018, which we haven’t heard and it may well see the light of day!
Quinn Smith is a drummer who jammed with the band, has done an interview and in it, he said he spent “four, five days at Henson studios”, adding “it’s supposedly coming out of the locker, I hear. And they’re going to do something with it, I hope.”
Quinn says he was “the very first person” called in for the LP, with Thomas Bangalter “experimenting… he was just, like, hitting things. We were literally just trying to get vibes across.”
Should this come out, it’ll either be a bit more experimental or four-to-the-floor, rather than the sophisticated, shimmering stuff we heard on later works.
Full interview below, for the nerds.
