Rod Stewart has said that the comeback of The Faces is in a bit of a sticky situation because they’re struggling to make new tunes. Keep in mind that he’s gone on record recently as saying he’s a fan of George Ezra, that might be why – no shade to George Ezra there, but he’s hardly Rhythm & Booze is he, like The Faces were.
The surviving members of the group are planning on coming back, with Kenney Jones and Ron Wood in tow obviously. They wanted to start recording in 2021, but no-one’s heard anything yet.
Rod has been writing songs, but Ron’s not having it so far. Stewart said: “I’ve sent a lot of them to Ronnie Wood. I told him, ‘This is stuff we’ve recorded with my band, maybe The Faces would like to do it instead?’ We’re still struggling to make this album. We’ll see. Some of them might see the light of day.”
He added: “There are a lot of songs I’ve written that I haven’t put out, and nobody knows about them. My songs are like my children. I gave birth to them, and then I put them out there in the world and see how they do.”
Kenney Jones has previously said that, if The Faces were to come back to the fold, he’d like to be able to do some new stuff with the old stuff. Honestly, it’s probably fair to say that fans would only want two or three newies, so just smash out ‘Stay With Me’, ‘Ooh La La’ and ‘Poolhall Richard’ and crack on lads.
Jones said: “What we’ve decided to do is work on some of the original stuff that we didn’t use, so the album is going to be a mixture of old and new.”
Anyway, more news if we get it. Until then, let us watch a very refreshed group do a smart version of ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’.
