It’s been a funny couple of years for Chance the Rapper and while his last outing was not our favourite work from him, the backlash he received seemed somewhat disproportionate.
Maybe everyone set their expectations far too high after the wildly credible ‘Acid Rap’ dropped, and ‘Coloring Book’ went wildly successful.
A couple of weeks ago, almost under the radar, he shared ‘Buried Alive’ which sounded like the Chance everyone loved from early doors, with him straight rapping over a Golden Era-ish beat.
Now, this morning, Wholesome Chance is back with a proper video and everything, with something that sounds squarely aimed at the backyard BBQ, and it featured legend DJ Premier which is never a bad thing.
It’s kinda moot as to whether Chance is about to hit the heights he’s hit in the past, because we shouldn’t be concerning ourselves with streaming numbers and all that nonsense.
Press play on these with an open heart and see if you like them. Feels like there’s an album or a mixtape on the way and Chance is a good guy to have around.
