IBIZA BOOZE BAN IS OKAY BECAUSE EVERYONE IS ON DRUGS ANYWAY

The Balearics have long been a destination for partygoers and obviously, that comes with its own unique set of problems. Notably, the problems come in the shape of people drinking too much in the lovely weather and then passing out in the street, puking on street corners, getting in scraps and falling asleep in clubs.

The islands – including Ibiza and Mallorca – have decided on a surprising initiative to tackle this issue, all set to ban alcohol settles after 9.30pm so they can sort out “excessive tourism.” This law sneaked into view a couple of days ago on May 11th, where places like San Antonio and Magaluf will not sell booze after a certain time.

It appears that this will focus on party areas, rather than a blanket ban across everywhere, and will last ’til 8am in the morning. We may have spunked our load with the joke in the headline, but you imagine most people after a certain time will mostly be drinking water, right? RIGHT? That said, people on pills are much less prone to a punch-up in the street than someone who has been supping pints all day.

It could be a nice little earner for the islands too because if anyone is caught drinking outside of designated areas, there could be fines for €500-1,500. If you’re thinking you’ll just chip off to a party boat, they’ll have to be one nautical mile out in the water if they want to make a racket, and you’ll get dropped off onshore in the middle of nowhere so you’re not irritating everyone.

Whether you think this is silly or not, these resorts have had a huge problem with antisocial behaviour from tourists over the years, and while the various venues have made a pretty penny from the whole thing, it’s still something that needs looking at even if this new ruling ends up being tweaked as the years pass.
