We’re not really into the whole post-punk, long anorak, well-read indie music stuff on these pages. We’re not saying that it is a bad thing, rather, just letting you know that with these things, we’re an unreliable source.
And so to Black Midi who were the darlings of lads in cherry red Doc Martens, gloomy existentialism and rollies, who have apparently split up. From our recollection, it was intense, complicated music and probably, it’s a good thing they split up because it can be boring hanging around too long when you’ve a point to prove. Admirable, if anything.
Anyway, the frontman for the group – Geordie Greep (yes, that appears to be his real name) – has already kicked off with some new music which is Latin influenced and… well… initially we thought it sounded a bit like Steely Dan, but it doesn’t. That leaves us wondering if he’s left the post-punk, post-rock world and aimed at Sophisti-Pop instead?
That’s an interesting move if so. Have a listen. We’ll keep an eye on this, even if we weren’t that moved by his previous group.
