We’ve spotted a great book that you’ll want or will start dropping heavy hints in the run-up to Christmas – it’s called ‘Acid House As It Happened’ and its a beautiful document of the boom of rave that happened in the late ’80s.
By Dave Swindells, it’s filled with photos from Future and Shoom taken in March ’88, then events at Spectrum, Mutoid Waste Company, Trip and others, showing meet-ups in car parks and bus depots while young clubbers waited for the digits to get to the event.
Dave was writing and snapping photos for Time Out during this period, so was no slouch, and this is a compendium of some of what Swindells captured as the magazine’s nightlife editor. Of course, it’ll be a sweet nostalgia trip for anyone there, or a beautiful look into what was going on for those too young. The fashion, the music, the pie eyed faces – it’s a magical thing!
It’s a softcover with gatefolds and an obi band, and features an introduction from Sheryl Garratt. Get your copy here. Act quick – it could well sell out!
