NEIL YOUNG CLASSIC REDUX

For years, Neil Young’s ‘On The Beach’ was something of a forgotten classic and it took an age to see a proper reissue. When it did, everyone updated their internal lists of which Neil Young LPs they liked the best, because it really is one of his finest works.

Well, it’s getting a do-over again, with a new version set for release to celebrate the 50th anniversary.

Out November 8th (via Reprise), this new issue will come on clear vinyl, and you assume it’ll be cleaned up a little and made more punchy, and if there’s a deluxe version, a spate of extra tracks and whatnot. We’ll have to wait and see, but Young is quite the archivist, so there might be some gold in them thar hills.

‘On The Beach’ followed the all-conquering ‘Harvest’, and was the second in his ‘Ditch Trilogy’, which is ‘Time Fades Away’, ‘On The Beach’ and ‘Tonight’s The Night’, named after something Neil had said after the release of ‘Harvest’. He said: “‘Heart of Gold’ put me in the middle of the road. Traveling there soon became a bore so I headed for the ditch.”

The LP featured a crack team on it, including Levon Helm and Rick Danko from The Band, David Crosby and Graham Nash, as well as a couple of Crazy Horses.

Have a listen to the ace ‘Walk On’ below, and pre-orders are available here.
