Cute animals sell more than sex does, and that’s a fact. Mums are more likely to share a missing cat post on Facebook than they are likely to tell people to listen to their children’s music they’ve been making. And with that, it’s about to get worse.

Viral hippo – Moo Deng – has released a single, and everyone is going to pass judgement on that good or bad, much more than they’re going to support that local band they’ve secretly been listening to. Just think of the algorithm joy everyone will get with a pygmy hippo, awww! AWWW!

In defence of the greasy little hippo, the single they’ve put out is in four different languages, which your mates band didn’t bother to do. Either way, without looking into anything, you suspect that Moo Deng might have just become the most famous Thai popstar in the country’s history. And four months old too, phew.

The song is called ‘Moodeng Moodeng’, and sadly, it is influenced by ska. It is available on your favourite streaming service, or you can just press play below. Or ignore it altogether. We’re not your dad.

As a factoid, ‘Moo Deng’ means ‘bouncy pork’ in the Thai language. That local band, who have been to rehearsals and trying their best to get better at songwriting, and offer something fresh to the local scene and trying to get some of you to come to a gig and buy pints to keep a small venue open, will no doubt be thrilled when everyone starts cooing over this little shit’s new novelty record.
