Those who know about Emitt Rhodes tend to be a bit evangelical about his music – and rightly so – his bubblegum psychedelic pop is often compared to the mighty Paul McCartney, but that’s because it’s so perfectly formed!

Rhodes recorded his eponymous LP at home in the ’70s, and if you’re a fan of Macca’s DIY charm on LPs like ‘Ram’ and ‘McCartney 1’, then if you’re not all over this album already, then you need to make it a must for your collection. It’s a beautiful selection of primo power-pop, filled with honey-dipped melodies, sensational harmonies, and gorgeous hooks.

Original copies aren’t too expensive (last time we checked, but that was well over a decade ago when we got ours), but if you’d like a new shiny copy on coloured vinyl, there’s a well-deserved reissue and you can pre-order your copy from Norman Records now. The album stars the absolutely perfect ‘Somebody Made For Me’, as well as ‘Promises I’ve Made’, ‘With My Face On The Floor’ and… well… honestly, the whole LP is completely enriching and you need it in your life as soon as possible.
