When music and video games collide, it really is a wonderful thing – and there’s not many games that straddled both worlds quite like the Tony Hawk series of games did. Like skateboarding itself, it’s not just about the activity itself – it is equally about the lifestyle that envelopes it.
Sports games tend to aim for faithful recreations of the thing it simulates, but Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games appealed to alternative kids, skateboarders, stoners, sports-haters and everyone else besides.
Pro Skate 1 + 2 got rejigged and freshened up so they looked like modern games, but with all that cool familiarity that we all loved. The graphics didn’t just get refreshed – the soundtrack which was so important itself, found itself being beefed up with new songs too.
Now, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 is getting the same treatment and now, all those artists you’ve listened to and thought ‘these would sound ace on a skate game!’ are getting added to the soundtrack.
The Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 redo will be available to play on July 11th, and you’ll be able to button bash on all the platforms you’d expect – PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Xbox.
Can you tell we wrote all those platforms out, to vainly try and grab some random internet traffic from Google? If so, great spot!
The first tracks that have been revealed as being part of this rejig, are pretty perfect. There’s going to be an appearance from the brilliant Turnstile with ‘Real Thing’, as well as Schoolboy Q and Kendrick’s ‘Collared Greens’, Denzel Curry’s ‘Ultimate’, and more.
You can check out the official playlist from the Tony Hawk team yourself, if you’re a Spotify subscriber.
