Seeing as, for the most part, Nick Drake didn’t have much in the way of compilations as to keep his entire back catalogue in rotation – in recent years, that’s changed with some odds and ends and previously unheard things seeing the light of day.
And that’s continuing with something for the ardent Nick collectors out there, with a new deluxe thing called ‘The Making Of Five Leaves Left’ getting released, which includes unaccompanied demos, studio outtakes and previously unheard songs, which all document how ‘Five Leaves Left’ came to be in 1969.
This release has been authorised by the Nick Drake Estate and there’ll be a 4xCD version and a 4xLP edition too.
Importantly for listeners, that’s over 30 previously unheard outtakes from the sessions, which will be over three discs with the original album rounding things out on the fourth.
There’ll also be a 60-page book written by Neil Storey in collaboration with Richard Morton-Jack, complete with full track recording details, charts and recording history.
Released 25th July 2025, and you can pre-order it here. Here’s a new thing to listen to now, if you’re too eager to wait.
