Our problem with a lot of modern period post-punk and New Wave music is that it is so boring and conservative. Not tuneful enough, nor weird enough, it’s usually dour groups who are more well-read than they are songwriters.
We get it – you’ve got a problem with too many cans during the week and no-one disagrees with you that The Fall and Wire are influential groups.
We’ll stop snarking though, because we just heard ‘Choke The Smoke’ from Litronix who takes all that energy and static from the after-punk times, and mashes it together with gonzo electronics and some real, fun edge.
They’re from LA and the brainchild of Kevin Litrow) and there’s a new album due called ‘One A Day Keeps The Doctor Away’, released on Invada which is run by Portishead’s Geoff Barrow. Nice!
Have a listen.
