Phoenix are great and we especially love their debut album ‘United’, as it basically preempted rock music falling in love with 70s soft rock and 80s production again. Between them and their pals Daft Punk, their love of AOR and wonky Beach Boys LPs paved the way for Yacht Rock’s revival, disco’s renaissance and the music of Foxygen and Mac DeMarco.
Now, we’re 25 years on from Phoenix’s album getting released and they’re celebrating that with some fun new merch, which you can see here, and an interesting link to French yoghurt.
The band shared a demo of the magic ‘Too Young’, which they recorded on a bunch of cassettes they’d taken from a skip outside a yoghurt factory. Yoplait creme fraiche fans, this is the double header you’ve been waiting for.
They said: “We found this stock of used Yogurt commercial cassettes in the dumpster of a Marketing company in Versailles and would re-record our demos over them. Here is the Too Young demo.”
Listen to the original ‘Too Young’ demo in this Instagram post, or see if someone’s put it on YouTube already.
