One of the most wonderful things about The Charlatans is their ability to breathe and grow, when many of their peers plough a familiar trough, and rely largely on nostalgia. Not so this lot, who have gone through ’90s psychedelia and indie-dance, to sun-soaked Californian synthetics, to rootsy rock, to Balearic, to post punk, and whatever else their impressive record collections inspire.
Frontman Tim Burgess has shown himself to be something of a renaissance man, inventing his social media hit Tim’s Listening Parties, to a fine solo career, to cool collabs, to coffee vendor, to author, to all ’round good vibes guy.
Back with the band, there’s a new album – their 14th! – called ‘We Are Love’, which has been produced by Dev Hynes. There’s a single to listen to as well and, if you’ve been following the Charlatans, you’ll know that it is best to just strap in and see where they take you.
Have a listen.
