10 SONGS WITH RAISSA PARDINI

One of the most exciting designers on the planet, Raissa Pardini has been rubbing shoulders with giants like the Rolling Stones, MTV, NY Times, Willie Nelson, Nike, Paul Weller, Brian Eno, as well as having her work acquired by the V&A.

There’s also been a raft of gig posters from underground groups, showing that Pardini isn’t just interested in the big ticket jobs, clearly taking huge inspiration from the world of music.

You can see the influence with her use of bold, bespoke typefaces, vibrant colours and nods to the wild art of the ’60s underground and the golden age of ’70s album designs and posters – Pardini channels all that’s good in design, while giving it a contemporary twist all her own.

Raissa was also the cover star of THEPOPCORP pals, Gulp when it launched, so you know she’s good people.

Visit Raissa Pardini’s website here, to get to know her work better, and follow her on Instagram to keep up-to-date with all the latest goings on, DJ sets and whatever else is happening in Pardiniville.

We asked her to tell us about 10 of her favourite songs, and predictably, it’s a great mix of punky glam, heart bursting soul and jangly pop gems. Now, it’s over to Raissa.

Hangin’ Around – Lou Reed

“My dad gave me this record, my very first LP, and it kicked off my iconic collection.”

Station to Station – David Bowie

“Absolutely insane instrumentals. When that main riff hits and the song shifts, you feel invincible and just want to explode into dance.”

No Fun – The Stooges

“One of my first tattoos. Honestly, if you don’t adore the Stooges, we can’t be friends.”

I Will Dare – The Replacements

“They taught me rock ’n’ roll could be sweet and poppy. Let It Be is a masterpiece – better than the Beatles one (I have many faves from the Beatles but not Let It Be).”

Gone with the Wind – Rita & The Tiaras

“I DJ northern soul, and this was playing my first night out-out. On the dance floor, songs like this make my stomach drop in the best way… the drama, the powerhouse female vocals, the sweeping orchestra. Perfection.”

Jet – Wings

“I looooooove Wings. My baby boy might actually be called Jett (uh-uh-uh-uhhh-uh-uh-uhhhh-uh-uhhhhh!).”

Corridor of Dreams – Cleaners from Venus

“The most criminally underrated UK band ever.”

Looking for the Magic – Phil Seymour

“Pure pop gold. He was also in Dwight Twilley. Everything he touched turned to magic.”

Walls Come Tumbling Down – The Style Council

“My favourite band. Weller at his absolute best: sharp, soulful, and political.”

Wan Light – Orange Juice

“I lived in Glasgow for a while, already loving Scottish indie, and dove deep into bands like Orange Juice, Josef K, Fire Engines… all brilliant musicians.”
