If you thought the response from White America was bad after Kendrick’s Super Bowl halftime show, just wait until Bad Bunny does his set at the next one in February.
Of course, Bad Bunny announced a world tour, and featured no shows in mainland USA, and has said that – rightly – he’d fear for the safety of those who would like to go and see him perform his ‘Debí Tirar Más Fotos’ LP, and other assorted hits.
He’ll now do one show, with a global audience firmly fixed on his every move.
And getting ahead of the hate – you might even say stoking it – Corey Lewandowski who was once Trump’s campaign manager and now adviser to the Department of Homeland Security says that ICE will be present at the Super Bowl show.
Speaking on The Benny Show, Lewandowski said: “There is nowhere you can provide safe haven to people who are in this country illegally. Not the Super Bowl and nowhere else. We will find you and apprehend you and put you in a detention facility and deport you. Know that is a very real situation under this administration, which is contrary to how it used to be.”
He added fuel to the fire by adding: “It’s so shameful that they’ve decided to pick somebody who just seems to hate America so much to represent them at the Halftime game.”
Prior to this, Bad Bunny said of his lack of US dates: “There were many reasons why I didn’t show up in the US, and none of them were out of hate – I’ve performed there many times. All of [the shows] have been successful. All of them have been magnificent.”
“But there was the issue of – like, fucking Ice could be outside… and it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.”
Now, given that Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States, which Bad Bunny is a huge champion for, it’s clear that White Americans hold a dim view of the area, and in fact, are only concerned about a very specific version of the States.
