WORDS ABOUT MUSIC + POP CULTURE

TUNNG’S NEW ANORAK

If you’ve got a pair of Clarks and love the occasional camping holiday in the South of France, you are probably a fan of the mighty Tunng. Folkie in a non-cringe, authentic way. Acid folk for fun drop-out mums and dads.

Well, there’s a new Tunng single out called ‘Anoraks’.

Sam Genders says: “One of the ways we write songs in Tunng is that Mike [Lindsay] sends me a musical track and I write a melody and lyric over it. That was our plan with this but for reasons I can’t explain Mike’s beautiful piece of music didn’t immediately inspire a song in the way it usually might. I was about to send it back and suggest we turn it into an instrumental but then the story popped into my head.”

“It fell in a bit like a dream… faster than I was able to write it down. It’s a little different to what we usually do so I was slightly nervous to send it to him. Luckily he liked it and asked for a chorus.”
