While thick people enjoy the fruits of artificial intelligence, everyone is left rolling their eyes and tightening their fists. Either way, the tech is outpacing any human response to it, and it’s making a real mess in the process.
Take for example, some songs appearing on Spotify impersonating King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and getting away with it for a period thanks to Spotify being a blasé, slow-turning ship.
A number of songs appeared under the name ‘King Lizard Wizard’, with uncredited cover versions of the group’s songs. They have been removed, but not before Spotify featured them on users’ Release Radar, according to Futurism.
Long live the algorithm, eh?
King Giz honcho Stu Mackenzie said in a statement that he was “trying to see the irony in this situation,” adding “but seriously wtf we are truly doomed.”
Of course, King Gizzard have already removed their music from Spotify in protest of Spotify’s Daniel Ek investing in drone warfare.
AI, of course, is rampant with deep fakes and musical slop, which is polarising opinion (although, definitely skewing on the side of hating it) in the world of music.
Spotify have said in a statement: “Spotify strictly prohibits any form of artist impersonation. The content in question was removed for violating our platform policies, and no royalties were paid out for any streams generated.”
This kind of thing is going to trundle on.
