Here’s the first in what promises to be a sporadic round-up of some of the best shows that have cropped up on Mixcloud. We’re not on the payroll, but we’re hard-pressed to find a better platform for true music lovers sharing their radio shows and mixes for free for those who need ’em.
There’s a wealth of dynamite shows appearing on Mixcloud all the time, and it is where we get many of our tip-offs from and, instead of hoarding these things, we’d prefer to share them with you so you can be ahead of the curve too.
RADIO FREE BROOKLYN: MONDO JAZZ
Radio Free Brooklyn upload so many brilliant shows to Mixcloud. What’s great about that is, if you don’t live in Brooklyn and can’t tune in the old fashioned way, we get to do it wherever we find ourselves in the world, on the commute or anywhere else. Their MONDO JAZZ shows are quite possibly the best regular jazz radio show anywhere on the planet, you definitely give them a listen.
ANDY SMITH DIGITISES HIS OLD TAPES
Portishead tour DJ, Andy Smith, is the real deal. On Mixcloud, he’s digitising his ace old cassettes and in the link below, he’s uploaded Stretch & Bobbito Hot 97 show from New York from 1997. Crunchy, hot hip hop when New York was the epicentre of rap. Lovely, lovely stuff.
E ROC/ERIC SAUNDERS ’70s JAZZ
A super duper mix of 1970’s jazz from one of Mixcloud’s most prolific sharers of music. Unmissable mix.
TONY FUENTES SOULFUL HOUSE
Just imagine a show where you get super soulful house music that makes you want to invite all your mates ’round to have a barbecue out the back in the sunshine and you’re halfway there with this ace mix from Tony.
