If you’re old and remember them, or are young and like looking at vintage gear, you’ll know all about those gorgeous consoles that featured in homes.

Consoles, for the uninitiated, were beautiful pieces of furniture that housed a record player, speakers, an amp, and sometimes other things like radios and storage.

They were the entertainment centrepiece of homes and were hot stuff in the mid century design period.

Obviously, everything went minimal and consoles started to become outdated, and then after the minimal years, things got plastic and cheap, which resigned these things to the kind of object you’d only see in charity shops or your grandparents house.

If you think that’s a shame, here’s a video which looks at some modern reimagining of these desirable objects, and underlines the feeling amongst music enthusiasts that, perhaps it’s just a bit boring only playing music from your phone.

We’ve seen record players make a comeback, but consoles is going to presumably be the thing for those with a little more money and bigger homes.
