We’d kinda like to take the piss out of Elijah Wood, especially now he’s revealed he’s doing a Lord of the Rings rave. However, he seems like a genuinely nice bloke with nice interests, so we’re not going to be mocking him here.
He’s launched an indie record label, released some nice looking headphones made out of wood, DJs as part of the duo Wooden Wisdom (“[we] play everything from stuff from the ’70s through to the ’90s, a lot of international stuff, African, Turkish – we do not play hits”), starred in some cool music videos, and definitely means it, man.
And so, to this Lord of the Rings rave, which we also want to mock, but given all the previous, we probably can’t because – if you like that kinda thing – it sounds like a laugh, honestly.
It is being marketed as a “full-blown Lord Of The Rings rave experience”.
Of course, Wood played Frodo Baggins in all those long movies, and he’s somewhat revising the role by doing a mad sounding one-off set in Denver at the Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom on May 31st.
Apparently this will be a “fantasy-themed event like no other” and “a full-blown Lord of the Rings rave experience set to the sound of carefully curated vinyl selections”. Fans are encouraged to get dressed up accordingly, but honestly, they were getting dressed up like hobbits anyway. Why would you not pop a cloak on?
The blurb reads: “Whether you are a devoted LOTR fan or simply a lover of great music and great vibes, Wooden Wisdom will transport you to Middle Earth and back.”
Our money is on some prog and acid folk getting played. We’d start our set with Focus’ ‘House Of The King’, for sure.
