Caroline Polacheck’s is an adventurous pop star, and that’s always a good thing. She’s recently hit out at lazy comparisons to Bjork and Kate Bush, preferring to make music under her own steam, which is fair enough. She’s got a big voice and likes to be mildly awkward, which we say as a compliment of course.
It looks like there’s going to be new stuff from her in 2023 but that’s guesswork. We can just feel it in the waters.
So, to work on something more definite, she’s had a remix out c/o George Daniel (The 1975) and Charli XCX, and it’s filled with big wonky wubs and pillsy bubbly synths. It’s all headrush and you’ll want to go out and lose your bap in a field somewhere (god forbid anyone puts this on some tedious workout playlist – get a life).
The original is here too, if you want less of the ecstasy and more of the serious singer-songwriter with synths tackle. It’s soaring stuff, and y’know, you’re allowed to like both too.
Talking to the Guardian, she said: “Emotions and pure expression and energy spilling and splashing out all over the place – I find it a very musical idea.”
Good stuff.
