We’re not arsed if you already knew about this, because some of us didn’t. Below is a video of Nico (Velvet Underground/Warhol) playing in Preston, and that’s exciting.

Nico’s time with the Velvets is well documented, but ever the Bohemian, she moved from romantic partner to country and was generally a nomad going where the inspiration took her.

In the 1980s, she moved between London and Manchester, living in Prestwich and Salford. We’re not interested about wading around in her addiction issues here, but during this period, she rediscovered her love of performing.

Maybe it was her companionship with John Cooper Clarke during this period that that gave her a fondness for the North – who knows? It’s interesting to think about such a legend playing in Lancashire.

She’s in decent voice and incredibly magnetic and powerful on stage still. She would be dead shortly after these performances.
