We could have said that ‘Thrust’ by McNeal and Niles was getting reissued, but that may not mean a lot to most people. Instead, we’re telling you it has been sampled by J Dilla, because that’s a bit catchier. Either way, it’s a masterful and very, very sought after LP, so this is great news if you can’t afford an OG copy.
The LP was made by Wilbur Niles and his then-partner Machelle McNeal and has been the talk of record collector types for a while now. It has gone for £600+ in the past, so it’s no joke. However, We Are Busy Bodies are reissuing it on vinyl at a much more reasonable price – but presales are selling FAST on this, so if you want yours, you really can’t hang around.
It’s real holy grail tackle, originally released on a private press in Akron in 1979.
Of course, a lot of these grailers are all hype, but not this one. It’s laid back, funky as hell, forward thinking and has proto-electro moments and is loved by a wide variety of heads, from library fans, Stereolab nuts, hip hop crate diggers, Arthur Russell fans, balearic head-nodders, and anyone who just loves a hidden gem. Have a listen below if you need convincing after all that carry on.
The reissue is available on vinyl from the 31st of March and can be found on Bandcamp here.
