Like noodly synth stuff from Germany? Course you do! Well, if you’re not already all over ‘Zuckerzeit’ by Cluster, you’re in luck! That means sugar time, by the way. It was the third LP from the cosmic German outfit, originally released in ’74, and an off-shoot of the also wonderful Harmonia group. And Neu!
Basically, all the progressive German groups in the ’70s were pals, and this is one such collaboration and it’s really wonderful.
Michael Rother of Neu! is credited as a co-producer, but funnily, the story goes that he only gets a credit because he let the group borrow a bunch of his instruments and equipment. Either way, it’s something of a landmark LP in electronic music and definitely something that curious minds should get stuck into.
If you’re into early Human League and The Normal, then this is definitely the kind of thing you want to be getting your chops around.
There’s a repro of the LP out if you want it on vinyl [click here] or if your interest has been piqued but you don’t have a record player, you can stream it. It’s dead good.
