Everyone ought to know by now that Bob Stanley is one of the finest custodians of popular music, being a member of the mighty St Etienne, but also, writer of countless wonderful words about it and putting out so many dynamite compilations – he really has become a national treasure for music geeks, and we’re very lucky to have him.
And of course, we all love the Bee Gees because they’ve got a hit-rate that isn’t matched by many – it’s rarified air up where they live in the pop firmament.
The two will now meet and Bob Stanley has written a book about the pop titans and that’s very, very exciting news indeed.

The book is out on June 8th and Pete Paphides (another fine pop custodian) tweeted: “Knowing how much I adore the Bee Gees, Bob let me read this as soon as he finished work on it. All I can say is that all the heart-stopping joy & sadness for which you keep returning to the Bee Gees’ music is contained in the pages of Children Of The World. I savoured every word.”
Honestly, while there’s been something of a reappraisal of the Gibb brothers’ work, a decent, proper book about them is long, long overdue. This is tremendous news.
No news on any events to celebrate or promote the launch of the book, but follow Bob on Twitter and he’ll be sure to tell you. Pre-orders will be announced in due course. Now, let’s listen to a killer track from the group that inspired the book.
