Cameron Crowe – you know him from the brilliant but don’t think too hard about it or it ends up feeling a bit problematic Almost Famous – is apparently doing a movie about Joni Mitchell.
Now, Joni is the realest of the real, so this feels long overdue, however, movies about musicians are often not great, but let’s focus on the positive here because it’s Joni Mitchell and Joni Mitchell is amazing and always deserves more spotlight.
Crowe has spent the last two years developing the flick with Mitchell herself, which is great news, because Joni is unflinching when it comes to talking about what the ’60s and ’70s were really like. She’ll no doubt be unflinching about herself, so this won’t be a beatification and a ego-fest. You’d hope, anyway.
Even if it is, she’s allowed because it’s not like loads of blokes have acted like that about their own biopics – you get the impression that Joni won’t stand for any of that nonsense though.
Rumour has it that the film will not be a big standard bio, rather, more like an autobiography. Not sure what that means exactly, but we’ll be watching this either way.
Joni Mitchell has shared these rumours and bits on her website, so that’s the project pretty much confirmed isn’t it?
Now, let’s see her doing one of her greatest songs live in London is the ’70s because it’s wonderful and she literally looks like she’s the greatest musician in the world.
