There’s going to be new music from Girls Aloud (if you’re pretending you don’t like them, you can stop now – it’s not cute) and that’s been confirmed by the achingly tremendous Kimberley Walsh. This is to mark the 20th anniversary of their debut LP ‘Sound Of The Underground’.
The girls have been moderately active recently after the terrible loss of Sarah Harding. They released a vinyl edition of their debut single with profits going to the Sarah Harding Breast Cancer Appeal. They’ve been doing a lot of fundraising for breast cancer charities since her untimely passing, raising over £1 million.
According to Walsh, the remaining girls will release some alternative takes from their first LP, saying: “We’ve got some fun alternative versions of songs lying around and little re-releases just to kind of mark that because, you know, it’s a big deal. 20 years is a long time and the love that we still feel for ‘Sound Of The Underground’ and some of the songs from the first album are still huge. So it still feels like something to celebrate, but in a kind of sort of discreet way, I guess.”
Walsh added: “We’re not really doing anything together as a group for obvious reasons. I think there’s already been one re-release of ‘Sound Of The Underground’ with different girls singing different lyrics, which is quite fun.”
With that, lets listen to a lesser known Girls Aloud banger while we think of some of the massive hun fashion they wore back in the day. Anyone for a high-heel with a gathered trouser?
