WATCH NOW: REGGAE IN BABYLON

The English reggae (and related) scene is one of the most musically enriching and fascinating seams of music anywhere in the world. So much amazing music with so much to say, it’s remarkable that much of it is still something of a niche interest in a broader sense.

With that, we turn your attention to the killer documentary from 1978 called Reggae In Babylon which is available to stream on Netflix right now, should you be in the market for something to set your eyes to.

The movie includes rare interviews and performances from some of the leading faces on the scene, including Steel Pulse, Aswad, Matumbi, and faces of fans and friends of Black Britain at a boiling point in UK history where music was used as a vehicle of hope and a weapon against the terrible resurgence of fascism.

The doc was the final part of German director, Wolfgang Buld’s trilogy of England’s revolution rock in the late 1970’s.

In it, you’ll hear thoughtful young people talking about the state of the country, but also, the night soundsystems and incredible live bands.

Reggae was the soundtrack of struggles and hope in a country looking at itself, and the truth from these bands made authorities and conservatives uncomfortable. Truth has a way of doing that, right?

This is a must-see for anyone interested in British youth movements.

Here’s the trailer.
